Hoya australis has glossy, rounded green leaves on vigorous vines that grow faster than most hoyas. It's great on a trellis or trailing from a hanging pot, and mature plants bloom with fragrant white flowers. It's safe around cats and dogs.

How to care for it
- Light: bright, indirect light. More light means more flowers.
- Water: let the soil dry out almost completely, then water thoroughly. The waxy leaves store water.
- Soil: a chunky, fast-draining mix in a pot with a drainage hole.
- Flowers: don't cut off the old flower spurs. Hoyas rebloom from the same spot.

Is it safe for cats and dogs?
Yes. The ASPCA lists hoyas such as the wax plant (Hoya carnosa) as non-toxic to cats and dogs. A pet that eats a lot of any plant may get a mild upset stomach, but it won't be poisoned.
How do I get it to bloom?
Give it bright, indirect light, let it get a little root-bound, and leave the old flower spurs in place. Most hoyas bloom once they're mature and happy.
