The classic prayer plant has soft green leaves with dark green blotches between the veins, a pattern sometimes called rabbit tracks. Its leaves fold upward every evening and open again in the morning. It's an easy, rewarding houseplant and safe around cats and dogs.

How to care for it
- Light: medium to bright, indirect light. Direct sun fades the leaves.
- Water: water when the top inch of soil is dry. Keep it lightly moist, never soggy.
- Water quality: filtered or distilled water helps prevent brown leaf tips.
- Humidity: average to high. It likes a humid spot but is less fussy than a calathea.
- Growth: it spreads and trails with age. Trim long stems to keep it full, or let it spill from a hanging pot.

Is it safe for cats and dogs?
Yes. The ASPCA lists the prayer plant (Maranta leuconeura) as non-toxic to cats and dogs. A pet that eats a lot of any plant may get a mild upset stomach, but it won't be poisoned.
