Watermelon peperomia has round, silver-striped leaves that look just like watermelon rind, held on red stems. It stays compact and tidy, which makes it a great desk or shelf plant, and it's safe around cats and dogs.

How to care for it
- Light: bright to medium, indirect light. Avoid harsh afternoon sun.
- Water: let the top inch or two of soil dry out, then water thoroughly. The thick leaves store water, so it forgives a missed watering.
- Soil: a light, well-draining mix in a pot with a drainage hole.
- Humidity: normal home humidity is fine.
- Temperature: 65 to 80°F, away from cold drafts.
Common questions
Is it safe for cats and dogs?
Yes. The ASPCA lists watermelon peperomia (Peperomia argyreia) as non-toxic to cats and dogs. A pet that eats a lot of any plant may get a mild upset stomach, but it won't be poisoned.
Why are the leaves drooping or turning yellow?
Almost always too much water. Peperomia leaves store water, so let the soil dry out more between waterings and make sure the pot drains.
Can it grow in low light?
It tolerates medium light, but it stays fuller and the stripes stay brighter in bright, indirect light.
Ships in its nursery pot. Decorative pots in the photos are not included.
