The areca palm has feathery, arching fronds on multiple cane-like stems, giving any room an instant tropical feel. It's one of the best-known pet-safe palms and a classic floor plant for a bright corner.

How to care for it

Light: bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun yellows the fronds.
Water: water when the top inch or two of soil is dry. Don't let it sit in water.
Water quality: filtered water helps prevent brown frond tips.

Yes. The ASPCA lists the areca palm as non-toxic to cats and dogs. A pet that eats a lot of any plant may get a mild upset stomach, but it won't be poisoned.

Why are the frond tips turning brown?

Usually dry air, minerals in tap water, or uneven watering. Use filtered water, keep watering consistent and trim brown tips with clean scissors.

Are all of your plants safe for cats and dogs?

Yes. Every plant we sell is listed as non-toxic to both cats and dogs on the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center plant lists. If a plant is on the toxic list for either one, we don't carry it. Non-toxic doesn't mean edible: a pet that eats a lot of any plant can get a mild upset stomach, but it won't be poisoned. How we check

Is shipping really free?

Yes, shipping is free on every order to the contiguous United States. Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days and arrive 2 to 4 business days later, with tracking. During extreme heat or cold we may hold an order for a few days so your plant doesn't arrive damaged, and we'll email you if we do. Shipping details
