Pet-safe plant questions

What houseplants are safe for cats and dogs?

Popular houseplants listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs by the ASPCA include spider plants, calatheas, prayer plants, peperomias, parlor palms, areca palms, Boston ferns, bird's nest ferns, money trees and African violets.

Which popular houseplants are toxic to pets?

Pothos, snake plant, ZZ plant, monstera, philodendron, peace lily, fiddle leaf fig, jade plant, aloe vera and sago palm are all listed as toxic to cats, dogs or both by the ASPCA. True lilies are especially dangerous to cats. See our full list of plants to avoid.

What is the best plant for a cat that chews everything?

Any plant here is safe if chewed, but to keep the plant looking good, hang a trailing plant out of reach and choose tough, thick-leaved plants like baby rubber plant or bird's nest fern for lower spots. A pot of cat grass nearby gives chewers something they're allowed to eat.

Does non-toxic mean my pet can eat it?

No. Non-toxic means the plant won't poison your pet. Eating a lot of any plant can still cause a mild upset stomach, so it's best to discourage chewing.
